Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Can These Unnecessary Bans Just Stop? Please?

Just when you thought California was the only state in this great America hellbent on banning plastic straws, well, just hang on, sports fans.

Now, that liberal madness has spread to my home state of Texas, not exactly a liberal and utopian paradise. It's my paradise, yes, but that's not important now. I say this because a Corpus Christi restaurant has decided to follow Cali's "lead" (as it were ) in banning plastic straws in order to "protect...

LaGuardia Finally Shedding Old And Third-World Statuses

Posted 07-28-2019 at 08:47 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

People have called it America's worst airport, and it's all been within reason. Have you ever had an occasion to check out New York City's LaGuardia Airport? My goodness, Google reviewers mostly gave it a thumbs down. Ouch.

Well, thanks to the internet, I see that LaGuardia is undergoing a makeover unlike any it's had. So you don't believe me, right? Well, it's happening. Check out the details in the following link:

I-69 Update: Tennessee Making Progress, But Slowly

Posted 07-26-2019 at 07:06 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

A few years ago, highway buffs wondered if Interstate 69 would ever gain more traction in Tennessee. Like many states, Tennessee was needing funds to get this transcontinental highway built and open within their bounds.

I just looked at the internet through some articles, and a small stretch near Union City, which had been under construction (off and on) for seven years, is expected to finally be completed by this fall. What's being awaited now are federal funds to...

Astros' Alvarez Should Get Rookie-Of-The-Year Consideration

Posted 07-22-2019 at 08:22 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

With all the talk you hear about Vladimir Guerrero, Jr, and the Rookie Of The Year recognition in Major League Baseball, you may just often be hearing about the Houston Astros' new phenom, Yordan Alvarez. In his first two months in the bigs, Alvarez is setting franchise records in key categories.

Boy, can that guy hit.

It may be a bit early, but you can never count out the possibilities of Alvarez getting the honor, given that he stays...

Case On The Dance Floor? We'll See If I've Still Got It

Posted 07-19-2019 at 04:52 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

There used to be a time --- used to be, now --- when Ol' Case could just tear up a dance floor. In my younger years, it was disco dancing, as it was quite the rage. Even today, and especially at high school reunions, you'd see disc jockeys play some intense disco songs for those who still "have it".

While I don't have a reunion to go to at this time, my co-workers want to do a post-birthday celebration for me at a local restaurant, whose...
