Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

And There Was A Time When 'The Price Is Right' Was Like This

From time to time, YouTube just gets more interesting. The things you used to watch on television sometimes reveal other things you might not remember.

There's that game show on CBS-TV called "The Price Is Right". Most of y'all, I'm sure, have seen that show, as I have very often in my younger years. I can't even stomach the version hosted today by Drew Carey, but we can all go back to the thirty-five years that Bob Barker hosted the show. I've...

NYC Blackout Exposes The Reason Democrats Are NOT The Party Of Compassion

Posted 07-14-2019 at 05:50 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Just spotted a headline on FOX News' website regarding New York City's blackout which took place yesterday. It dealt with some interesting details about what took place during a local crisis.........and also what should have taken place.

New York City, seemingly the epicenter of world commerce, had a transformer catch fire last night, affecting thousands of electric customers who needed help right away. And where was their hapless mayor when this was going on? ...

Astros In (Mostly) Good Standing, But Need Pitching Help

Posted 07-08-2019 at 09:26 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

In the standings, the Houston Astros are pretty much where they need to be. But if you think that the Astros are going to stand pat for the July 31, then I think you may be smoking some serious weed.

GM Jeff Luhnow always comes up with something. Offensively and defensively, I don't think Houston should make any moves there. They could use more pitching. Lately, they brought up the number 29 prospect, Jose Uriquidy, to try to patch up a starting rotation...

Nostalgia: Andy Griffith Just Knew How To Pitch A Product

Posted 07-01-2019 at 01:58 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Back in the day, I just knew that I had grown up in a great time. The 1970s were just chock full of great commercials, and especially those which pitched food products. And if you go on YouTube, then you'll find numerous celebrities who pitched different types of food, whether it was something you could make in a kitchen, or if it was served in a restaurant.

For this post, I'll select Andy Griffith. Yesteryear, he just made some of the greatest commercials...

What If New Towns Were Rooted To Support A Lonely Interstate?

Posted 06-30-2019 at 10:20 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

I mentioned in a previous computer chickenscratch about West Texas town planting and how to revive that section of the state. Well, the push is on for Interstate 14 to get expanded and extended in Texas. So far, twenty-six miles of it exist in Texas and in America. In case you haven't heard, it's being proposed to connect key military bases from West Texas to Augusta, Georgia.

Now, it seems lawmakers can't seem to settle on the mainline route west of a proposed...
