Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Music World Loses An Artist Who I Once Idolized

Posted 01-20-2020 at 07:43 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

I drifted into this group's music because a song played on an album-oriented rock station. And it helps, to a degree, when you have your high school classmates listening to it.

Over a period of time, I'd hear different songs from the group Rush, a Canadian-based power rock band. Three decades ago, they were part of the mainstream of album rock, and their songs would later turn up in the classic rock format that you can still hear in a number of markets throughout...

Why I Think The Next Astros GM Should Be...............Ed Wade

Posted 01-15-2020 at 04:59 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

In the forefront of things, you'll chuckle, but after you let it sink in, you'll see why. The Houston Astros are currently trying to nail down a new manager and a new general manager. The former should not take very long. Joe Espada, bench coach. Bingo. Problem solved.

The latter one, in my humble opinion, also shouldn't take all that long. He's available. He understands the history of the Astros. He's actually had a part to play in three players'...

Talk About A Bad Weekend For Houston Sports Teams

Posted 01-13-2020 at 05:37 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)
Updated 01-14-2020 at 04:33 AM by case44

My weekend went much better than two sports teams that I care about. Two things to glean from my otherwise-restful weekend, but just read below.

First, the Houston Texans. This was the team's best chance ever to advance to the AFC Championship Game, what with the New England Patriots and Baltimore Ravens suffering crushing defeats. They go to Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City and put together a 24-0 lead in the second quarter. Things were looking good........

A Rare Snow Event In North Texas --- If For Just A Little Bit

Posted 01-12-2020 at 09:54 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

North Texas hasn't seen much wintry weather in recent years. In fact, it's been four years since we've even had any ice on the ground.

Yesterday, some snow was falling while I was at work. Snow. What a rare thing that is anymore, at least in my part of the world. Snow was falling outside. On my first break, I was seated inside the rotunda while about ten different co-workers --- and I'll never forget this --- all had gone outside to take film footage of...

Case Thought He Saw A Rabbit At Work

Posted 01-09-2020 at 07:47 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

It's still before sunrise on a Thursday morning in the work parking lot, but that doesn't mean one won't see things. Every now and then, we'd have an animal of some sort scamper through that same work parking lot.

Your writer swears he saw a rabbit upon arrival at work this morning. We've had rabbits before from time and time. They're cute. We've had cardinals and other birds. We've even had a bobcat, and I think I doodled a blog post about that not many moons...
