Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Earliest Spring In 124 Years, And Very Rare

Posted 03-21-2020 at 07:32 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Spring has sprung, all right. It happened with just a few minutes left on March 19. Usually, when we have spring at such....

Did I just say March 19??

Not that that's a bad thing; after all, your writer had been waiting all winter for this. March 19 is our equinox this year. For the first time in 124 years, the aforementioned happened. Interestingly, an article I've read in the almanac also states that we will not see another March...

I Guess St Paddy's For This Year Is A Big O'Zero

Posted 03-21-2020 at 06:30 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

This much is true: I wore green on St Patrick's Day to work. Not a real obvious green, as I will need at least one new dark green shirt. I can get one of those later on, but that's not important now.

The 17th was the strangest St Paddy's that anyone would have. No celebrations. No gatherings of ten or more. Yeah, I know: the coronavirus has taken the wind out of our sails for just a short fortnight. But at least someone had to get a wee bit festive in the...

Getting Used To A Different World.....Temporarily

Posted 03-19-2020 at 03:20 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

I'm trying really hard to not write a post about the Chinese coronavirus. Really. It's because almost everyone else has.

Even in these different times (however brief), we've all got to keep our heads high right now and stay as healthy as possible. On Saturday, I'm taking a vacation day from work, but the plans I've had for that day have been changed. So, Case will just get in his car and go wherever it takes him.

As much as I hate this idle...

A Few Thoughts From This Past Road Trip

Posted 03-16-2020 at 07:54 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

While I don't believe that my recent week of vacation passed that quickly, I never really wanted it to end, either. Oh, there were a few places I stopped at, but it's nothing I've never been to before.

I wanted to focus on just one town for this past vacation. If you've ever been to Granbury, Texas, then you will like the town's square. Many of the shops are geared toward women, but men can take in a show at the legendary Granbury Opera House or get a boat and...

I-69 Update: Texas Sees Change In Configuration

Posted 03-15-2020 at 11:16 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)
Updated 03-15-2020 at 12:12 PM by case44

You won't find it right now in Wikipedia because officials at the Texas Department of Transportation have kept ridiculously quiet about this issue. To people outside the South Texas region, what I'm about to reveal here doesn't mean much now, but for travel purposes, it will eventually come into play.

I've saved a 2019 pdf file for TXDOT's Interstate 69 status report and put it in my favorites on my computer. I just noticed a change in the project's branch configuration,...
