Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

A Restroom Sign You Can Remember

Posted 05-21-2020 at 07:37 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Ah, the amazing things Case spots when he's on the road. Yes, today. This was after work. I decided to take that Camry of mine and head briefly for East Texas.

Before stopping in at Molly's Catfish Corner in Seven Points, Texas, for their big specialty, your writer decided to stop in a nearby Brookshire's grocery store. And before I stopped at a machine to get a couple of lottery tickets, I trudged into the restroom to wash my hands. Lo, and behold, ...

Waffle House vs. Nelson's: Either Way, You'll Love Their Hash Browns

Posted 05-18-2020 at 10:35 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

From the common ground files (as only Case can reveal ) comes this finding: If you like hash browns, then you'll see a surprise that's pleasant. Very pleasant, in fact. And it shouldn't really even be a surprise.

I don't get to stop at Waffle House as much as I should, but I finally did yesterday. They have marvelous hash browns, some of which I partook of on that same Sunday morning, along with a waffle, scrambled eggs, and sausage. But they have great...

Willie Just Keeps On Going............And Would You Believe He's 87?

Posted 05-16-2020 at 10:07 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Some of you folks out there may be wondering if he's still around. He's only written songs for six decades and made a name for himself in two sides of the country music circle.

One Willie Hugh Nelson still stands today. Would you believe that Willie Nelson is 87? That rascal from Abbott, Texas, is. And, yes, he is still going.

Now, his health had been in decline and still is, but he's hanging on. The Red-Headed Stranger has long had a tradition...

Every State Should Implement Exit 0

Posted 05-14-2020 at 08:07 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

This is more of a transportation and road issue, sure. I find it baffling that some states have different criteria for exit numbering on their interstate freeways than others.

Yes, I know that individual states have their own thing, but shouldn't the U.S. Department of Transportation have a say about mile markers? This doesn't have to be about bureaucracy, but rather, a set standard for interstates in every state. We make a big deal about interstate standards in...

Vacation Man Looks To Get Back Out And About

Posted 05-12-2020 at 08:50 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Until a few days ago, The Case had only one hotel reservation nailed down. It will be at an historic (but recently renovated) San Angelo, Texas, hotel in July. Guess it was time to round out the rest of my vacation travels for 2020.

After my July excursion, I'm only going to be looking at Houston and San Antonio as I anticipate getting a new car this fall. Got to keep my mileage down on an old ride. I'll have some rooms locked up for Houston in August and...
