Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Disappointing News For Metroplex Salt Lick Fans

Posted 07-05-2020 at 09:18 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

I knew that it would come to this.

When I inquired with the city of Grapevine (Texas) about the status of the deal being worked out with Salt Lick Barbecue, they told me that Salt Lick was still in negotiations and a deal may eventually be worked out.

That was two years ago.

After Salt Lick had promised to build a location in Grapevine on a very fine piece of land that would have doubled its Driftwood capacity, I got the news from a Salt Lick...

Some 4th Adjustments For This Year, And You Know Why

Posted 07-05-2020 at 09:12 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

As I mentioned in my previous chickenscratch (tailor-made for computers, of course ), your writer mentioned Round Rock and Austin. Well, yes, I had decided to take a brief road trip.

On the 4th of July, no less.

I had to resort to a local classical radio station if I wanted to get my fix of patriotic music; otherwise, I'd have had to hum it. The Arlington 4th of July Parade had been cancelled due to a recent spike in COVID cases in Tarrant County,...

Never Sausage A Situation? HEB Grocers Put Up More Links

Posted 07-04-2020 at 08:58 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

I was just doing a little browsing during a 4th of July road trip (I can explain that part later), and I couldn't help but notice the meat sections at an HEB grocery store in Round Rock, Texas. In Central Texas, where smoked sausage is king, the sight beholden could not be more true.

HEB has an incredible and very in-depth selection.............of smoked sausage. Granted, it's an HEB-Plus from the larger series, so you can expect a few more things than the average HEB....

I Guess You Could Say It's Time For Pie

Posted 07-02-2020 at 07:50 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Not even a few rains could stop Ol' Case, one day away from beginning his vacation, in his quest for catfish and a little prize to take home with him.

Actually, two prizes.

I decided that it was time to head for McGehee's Catfish Restaurant in Marietta, Oklahoma, for some chowing down. After my meal, I brought home two fried pies, one blackberry, and the other, apple. They're sitting on my dinner table waiting for a Texas chomping. I don't...

An Exercise In Solving The Medicament Predicament

Posted 06-28-2020 at 11:07 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

New technology offering reminders is one thing. New technology causing a big annoyance is another.

I won't say the name of the pharmacy, but this writer just hates robocalls, especially when they come for things not really needed. Oh, it's a medicament that I use, but goodness, the dosage changed a few months earlier. So, the robocall comes across one day last spring and sez that my prescription has been filled and is ready for pickup. I didn't take the...
