Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

We Still Have Two Beatles Around Even Today

Posted 01-07-2021 at 04:57 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

For any fan of The Beatles, you still have a little solace. Two of their members are still alive even as I am writing this chickenscratch, and they are still kicking.

Paul McCartney. Ringo Starr. One half of the Fab Four. And, yes, in 2021, they're still here for all of us to share our musical lives with.

In fact, Paul just did a tribute to his friend and rival, Gerry Marsden (late of Gerry & The Pacemakers), who just passed away...

Forget The Bad News --- Just Think Of Baseball

Posted 01-06-2021 at 07:47 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

In a world full of bad news, there's good news...............for baseball fans.

I've just pulled up a countdown clock to the day pitchers and catchers will report to Spring Training, whether that be in Florida or Arizona. Nonetheless, it is now forty days (40) until that happens. The first team (or one of the first) will be the Baltimore Orioles. My gosh, that week will also find me (after the dates are approved at work) on my first vacation of the year, as well...

UT Wasted No Time Making Change --- A Bit Abruptly

Posted 01-04-2021 at 09:48 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Some of you may have been as shocked as I was when it was announced that Tom Herman would no longer be the head football coach at the University of Texas. Maybe Longhorns Athletic Director Chris Del Conte had become convinced that Herman just could not beat the Oklahoma Sooners.

So, instead of giving Herman one more season with, admittedly, a great group of returning players, Del Conte just cut him loose. Never mind that great and convincing Alamo Bowl victory over...

Black-eyed Peas Are The Way To Go To Start The New Year Right

Posted 01-02-2021 at 10:10 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Look at it this way: Only a month and a half to go until pitchers and catchers report to baseball's Spring Training. In the meantime, the here and now deserves a big bowl of a great little vegetable which got its start in Texas.

Ol' Case decided to get his New Year off to just the right start, and that's with a bowl of black-eyed peas. It starts on the stove with a big pot. In the water go the peas (newly rinsed), salt, pepper, and salt pork. That's...

The Rose Bowl In Texas? Believe It This Time

Posted 12-31-2020 at 05:52 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Ahhh, bowl season, football-style. When Christmas passes and Baby New Year has yet to emerge from the ashes, college football anticipates one of the bigger games we all wait to see.

The other big game is the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, but the one your favorite blogger is talking about is the Rose Bowl in Pasad----

What???! Say that again???

It was in Pasadena until California's crazed governor Gavin "Gruesome" Newsom...
