Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

The Snow Is Falling --- And Case Can't Travel This Week

Posted 02-14-2021 at 10:12 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

This was what I alluded to in my most recent Scattershooting, but as I looked at the weather forecasts for this week to come, it became apparent that whatever plans I had were just not going to happen.

We've got snow falling in North Texas. We've got the coldest temperatures in the last few years. Projected temps, speaking of, are going to dip down into the single digits the next two nights. You don't see that in Dallas in a typical year. Such is rarely the case....

For National Pizza Day, Something You Don't See Much Was Consumed

Posted 02-11-2021 at 07:53 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Tuesday, February 9, was National Pizza Day. I'd have been stupid if I hadn't taken advantage of it. Since I'm not in the middle of a diet right now, well....

As I enjoyed my Palio's pizza the other night, I partook of something that is disappearing from other franchises' pizza repertoire. That would be the anchovy. Now, what's wrong with anchovy pizza? It's the bomb. It's delicious, and also a great alternative to vegetables or Italian sausage that I'd...

Scattershooting / Possible Winter Weather Could Change Vacation Plans

Posted 02-08-2021 at 07:45 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Welcome, masses, one and all! It's another round of Scattershooting, where I go here and there with one thought after another. While many of you are either pondering spring plans or getting a shovel out and digging through the snow, Ol' Case will spend his opening subject trying to figure out the National Weather Service.

Or attempting a game of chess....

For better or worse (and, for now, we'll choose the latter), Punxsutawney...

Oldies 97.7 (Lubbock) Needs A Little Tweak With The Product

Posted 02-07-2021 at 07:15 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)
Updated 02-07-2021 at 08:50 PM by case44

Oh, it's got good intentions. Not many radio markets in the USA have stations which specialize in a 1960s-1970s music format. Very few, in fact.

Well, in Lubbock, there actually is one and it's on a low-power frequency and a subchannel of a local sports station. And KTTU-FM (97.3) has some pretty good company in its flock of channels. K249DU (97.7) is that oldies station I referred to. We call it Oldies 97.7. There are no deejays outside of the syndicated John...

One Place Your Writer Still Hasn't Been To

Posted 02-03-2021 at 06:45 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)
Updated 02-03-2021 at 06:54 PM by case44

I'll preface by saying that I haven't covered everything yet. I've been to a lot of places but, good grief, there's no way in high, holy heck that I'm going to get to all of them.

Leave it to television's Bob Phillips to reveal more about a place I've known about for a while but never had occasion to stop at.

It's in the Texas town of West, but let's face it, sports fans, I've made up every excuse in the world and still have not stopped at...................
