Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Leaping Forth On Leap Day In A Leap Year

Posted 02-29-2016 at 08:13 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

We do this every four years. You know, that extra hump on the calendar that isn't called Wednesday (well, this year, anyway). As I'm writing this, it is February 29. Leap day, if you please.

Maybe Dave Hoeffel of 60s on 6 was actually on to something when he made the comment a while ago on his show: Why does Leap Day have to be in February, before all else has happened? Good point, Dave. Perhaps, though, maybe it's better in February, but should...

I-35 Could Potentially Have Two Relief Routes

Posted 02-26-2016 at 10:30 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

The interstate highway system in the United States is still ever-expanding, with numerous projects under construction or in the design phase. And none more so than Interstate 69, the Canada-to-Mexico, diagonal, north-south route that I frequently talk to you about on Case's Column.

Another interstate, one that's much more established, is in a state of rebuild, particularly in my home state of Texas. Interstate 35 is being reconstructed between Dallas and San Antonio,...

The Either-Or In America: Liberty Or Tyranny

Posted 02-26-2016 at 09:26 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

As you no doubt witnessed thus far, we are in the middle of a presidential election year. States are going to have primaries for two political parties in the coming days and weeks. Iowa and South Carolina have already tallied their votes. America now awaits to see whether or not we can restore this country back to its foundational and constitutional roots, or just simply see it wither like dry grass into an abyss.

That's where we are at now, folks. A Democrat Party...

Country Music Mourns Over The Passing Of The Southern Gentleman

Posted 02-24-2016 at 06:47 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

This truly has been a year of notable music industry passings, and we're not even yet two months into same. Look at the list of notables whom we've lost since January, from Natalie Cole to David Bowie to Glenn Frey to Kitty Kallen to Red Simpson.

And as of Monday? Sonny James.

The man known as The Southern Gentleman passed away Monday at age 87. Hard to believe. Sonny James. Gone. I'm still trying to get this to sink in. The cause of death...

Up All Night Waiting For The Chirping To Stop

Posted 02-20-2016 at 04:44 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

No, it's not a noisy bird, although that'd actually be a welcome alternative.

The overnight disturbance actually came from the batteries on my apartment's fire alarm. They're spent, and they need to be replaced by maintenance. When they get like that, the alarms make a frequent chirping sound that occurs every few seconds. I was sleeping great for four hours from Friday night into Saturday morning until those sounds began. And the pity of it is..................it...
