Watson Cabin Living Museum

The Watson Cabin Living Museum and Watson Cabin Curious is located on its original site from when it was constructed in1909. The museum is the oldest structure that was constructed onsite in Tahoe City and was built by Robert M. Watson and his son Robert. The building is a great example of turn-of-the-century building. The cabin is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Watson's were one of the first families to live year round in Tahoe and Robert and his son shared the cabin with Stella and their daughter Mildred. The cabin is an example of a simpler time of living, but was the first in the area with indoor plumbing. There are two levels with two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen and an outdoor porch. The cabin was renovated into the museum store and feature vintage Tahoe merchandise. The cabin is maintained and the museum is handled by the North Lake Tahoe Historical Society, which was founded in 1969. Other museums in the collection include the Gatekeeper's Museum and the Marion Steinback Indian Basket Museum. More than 10,000 people visit the museums each year and memberships are usually near 1,000. The Watson Cabin is a popular destination for field trips and visitors to the area.
