Sunset Magazine Headquarters and Gardens

Sunset Magazine was founded by Southern Pacific Railroad in 1898. The magazine was used to promote the Californian lifestyle one could gain by taking the railroad to the state. Thomas Church was commissioned by the magazine to create a demonstration garden. They asked for the garden to be built in Menlo Park, California. Today Menlo Park, California is home to Sunset Magazine Headquarters and Gardens. The garden has plenty of suburban style with some abstract options thrown in. For example, a long serpentine border was created to fringe the lawn. Various sections on the gardens represent different flora in California in order to provide a full representation of the state for potential residents.

The headquarters and gardens are found at 80 Willow Road in Menlo Park. The garden is open year round, except on holidays. Hours are Monday to Friday 9am to 4:30pm. Tours of the card are free. The magazine is still one of the most popular in the United States today. It offers more than information on California. It is a garden, travel, home, food and wine, and how to magazine for a variety of topics. Readers are able to learn a lot about California and the United States.
