Meux House Museum

The Meux Family home is on the northwest corner of R and Tulare Streets in Fresno, California. The home has been turned into the Meux House Museum due to its age. The house was built in 1888 by Doctor T.R. Meux when he moved from Tennessee. Dr. Meux was a Civil War surgeon who worked for the Confederacy side. Due to issues in Tennessee left by the war and his wife's failing health Meux decided to uproot his family to Fresno for the better weather.

The house was occupied by the Meux family until 1970, when the daughter of Doctor Meux passed on. At this time the property was purchased by residents of Fresno in order to save it as a historical site. It is open for tours from noon to 3:30pm Friday through Sunday. The admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children. Parking is available at the museum. The house still retains much of the 1800s architecture and furnishings. There is a formal parlor that used to receive prominent city guests, as well as a five sided bay in the lower tower of the home. The tower is the main architectural feature of the home.
