Inspiration Point Vista

Located at the southern end of Lake Tahoe, Inspiration Point Vista overlooks Emerald Bay and Fanette Island. It is one of the recommended stops on and circuit of the lake by car or bicycle, noted for its splendid panorama and backed by the scenic mountains of Emerald Bay State Park.

The most commonly taken route to Inspiration Point Vista is to follow southbound California Highway 89 along the west side of Lake Tahoe. As it crosses Eagle Creek, the road heads generally east toward Inspiration Point and Eagle Point. The vista area is well marked on the lake side of the highway. Alternatively, coming from Nevada, the area can be reached by taking Highway 89 north eight miles from South Lake Tahoe. A landmark to look for is the wooden sign that points the way to Cascade Falls.

Camping is available near Inspiration Point Vista at the Bayview Campground, which also features parking at the far end for a fee of $5 per vehicle. This is also where the trailhead can be found for Cascade Falls Trail, which offers spectacular views of the 200-foot high falls and Cascade Lake. Visitors should take care as they tour this area, which is noted for slides and falling rocks.
