Crescent Meadow Loop

Crescent Meadow Loop Trail is one of the many trails located within the Sequoia National Park. It is an easy and picturesque hiking trail through a meadow bordered by giant sequoias. The partially paved trail links a handful of paths into a circuit through groves of the park's enormous trees.

The highlights of the 1.6 mile trail are Tharp's Log and Chimney Tree. Tharp's Log is a home built inside a fallen giant sequoia tree. From Tharp's Log, hikers can take the left trail leading to Chimney Tree and Crescent Meadow. Chimney Tree, a standing Sequoia whose interior has been completely burnt out, is on a well marked path just off the trail.

Other trails branching off the main trailhead offer longer hikes through the Sequoias and meadows, providing ample opportunity to spot the native woodland creatures.

The Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks are managed together and contain nearly 150 miles of roads and 800 miles of trails for all levels of hikers. Situated on the eastern side of California, it is 60 miles west of Reno, 250 miles east from San Francisco, 225 miles northeast of Los Angeles and 344 miles northeast of San Diego.

The park is open 24 hours a day year round, depending on the weather.
