Lake in the Hills: this is a view form the West end (the shallow end) of the lake. When the lake is drawn down, it is here that you can see the top of the wheel from the cart the horses use to pull to dig out the lake.
Lake in the Hills: there is an Island in towards the West end of the lake. This is a photo of the island from the shore. There have been many changes since the early '50's. We have lived here since '71 and I did in depth study of the town for the bi-centenial. Facts were gathered from people who knew the Judge...the original owner of all this property until his disappearence.
Lake in the Hills: this is the earthen dam...the lake was dug out by horse-drawn digger. Part of the wheel can be seen at the East end of the lake when the lake id drawn down for silt removal. When the horses got in too deep, they would shoot them instead of trying to remove them.
