Description: In 1881 the Buckhorn Saloon opened as a Texas watering hole. Soon hunters and trappers were stopping by eager for a cold brew, so they traded in furs and horns. Owner Albert Friedrich collected the horns, some of which his father made into horn chairs. Today you can see the heads, hides, and horns on a guided tour of the Buckhorn Hall of Horns, one of four unusual museums housed here. The tour also includes the Buckhorn Hall of Fins (marine trophies and fishing lures) and the Buckhorn Hall of Feathers (mounted birds).A recent addition is the Texas Ranger Museum, highlighting the history of the famous lawmen. Exhibits include an extensive collection of firearms, historic photographs, and “Ranger Town,” a walk-through re-creation of San Antonio during the Wild West days with a jail, shops, and saloon. Buckhorn Saloon and Museum is open daily. Hours vary by season.
