Description: You may not want to know the motives of some of the other people visiting here with you, but don’t miss this small museum, which highlights the fascinating history of crime and punishment. The museum displays a retired police motorcycle, a working traffic signal, a collection of badges, uniforms, weapons, handcuffs, and other tools of the trade representing both sides of the cops-and-robbers paradigm. There is also a great collection of historical photos. Current and retired Portland police officers make up the volunteer staff, so mind your manners. Entry to the museum is free, though donations are welcome. The museum is open Tues through Fri, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; you should call ahead. There’s also a gift shop. If you’re over 18 you’ll need some photo ID since it is, actually, in the building that houses the city jail.
