1. Lincoln Country Club

City: Lincolnton, NC
Category: Golf
Telephone: (704) 735-1382
Address: 2052 Country Club Rd.

Description: Lincoln Country Club is often overlooked, which it shouldn’t be, and often thought to be private, which it isn’t. What this semi-private course is, is a very enjoyable golf experience on two different nines from distinctly different eras. The course opened as a nine-hole layout back in 1946. It remained that way until 1992, when a new nine was added. The new nine became the front nine, while the old nine became the back nine. The front nine is a meandering trip around farmland and a few houses, and it happens be bisected by a four-lane highway, US 321. Golfers access the holes on the other side of the road by riding (or walking) though a tunnel burrowed under the highway. Some of the best holes on the course are on the other side of the road, designed with creativity and ingenuity. The back nine is more traditional and what you’d expect of a World War II-era course. It wasn’t set up for the advances of modern-day equipment, so if you can hit some long drives there are excellent chances for birdies. The clubhouse at Lincoln Country Club was rebuilt several years ago and is very functional, with a fully-stocked pro shop, locker room facilities, and a friendly 19th hole for enjoying a cold beverage or three.
