We recently received an email containing a JPEG image. On our Ipad Mail app, the image wouldn't appear. It did say "image0.jpeg" but tapping on it does nothing. It was sent from an Ipad.

That same image does appear in my Android phone or Windows computer.

When an image is sent from an IPHONE, from the same person, it appears everywhere okay.

The Mail app is updated correctly.

Any ideas?

Related:

When you get an email on the Ipad Mail app, and there are photo/videos, sometimes you have to tap on a square thing to load the photo/video. Other times, it just displays the photo right away.

When you write an email in the Ipad Mail app, you can attach them, but there is another way to insert them, is that right? What is the pattern?

Very hard to answer these questions. Apple, imo, sucks at email.
Oh, everything just works on iPhone! Really? Because as an IT support professional, the only time people ask for my help getting pics out of an email...are emails from iPhones.

I have no idea why Apple embeds photos in emails the way they do.

This situation seems to have started for us after a recent IOS upgrade to IOS 17 on our iPads and iPhones.
Not sure if it is 100% the cause or not, but it sure seems like it.
