What is a good brand of pump action rifle? With the way gun laws are going in some states, we will be seeing more.
So far I know of Troy. I think I prefer pump actions to lever actions. I find lever action to be difficult to work. Pulling it down and away tends to move the alignment off more than the pull/push motion from a pump. Are there any brands that use tube mag like shotguns, and not the box or stick mags? Are there any more modern ones ?
For a more conventional pump action centerfire, current production or vintage Remingtons are alright.
The more recent, that is less than 50 years old, guns are loosely based on the 870 shotgun, so you have a trigger that would be fine on a shotgun but leaves something to be desired for a rifle. I have a vintage one in 35 Remington caliber and it shoots minute of beer can out to 75 yards or so.

I can recommend the Saiga KSZ-223 as a good/more modern pump action rifle that's worth owning , though of course buying one may very well turn out to be a pickle depending on where one lives .
As an aside here's a video of a fellow shooting one :

I've owned a Remington 7600 and presently own a Remington 760 Gamemaster. Excellent hunting firearms. Also available in an 18.5" barrel vs the standard 22". 10 detachable mags are also available. It is highly feasible to make it into a dual purpose tactical rifle and easily maneuverable hunting weapon. Food for thought. Mine have been very reliable and 1.5 MOA at 100 yds. iff a shooting bag.
I have a Remington 7600 in .30-06 that has been my primary deer rifle for over 20 years. It's reliable, accurate and has sufficient power to take down any big game in Ontario. I topped it with a 3x9 scope and have been very happy with the results.
