Tallac Historic Site


Tallac Historic Site encompasses three grand homes built in the early 1900s. The historic site is a museum and park style location in Lake Tahoe, California. The site totals 150 acres near the south area of Lake Tahoe. The site is managed by the US Forest Service. They are dedicated to keeping the three estates in good condition and open to the public for tours. Tallac Historic Site is on the national register of historic places. As a bonus it is also one of the best places to find white sandy beaches on Lake Tahoe.

The Baldwin Estate was built in 1921 as a log home. This home has exhibits from the Washoe Indian culture, Baldwin family, and a slide show. Photographs, letters, hotel and casino information are all part of the exhibit. Admission is free and the museum is open daily from mid-June to Labor Day.

The Pope Estate was built in 1894 as the main house for George Pope. George Pope lived in San Francisco for several years before building what he called the "Vatican Lodge". The Heller Estate was built in 1923. It is called Valhalla and borders Camp Richardson. It has been a host to many music festivals throughout the years.
