Swedenborgian Church

Swedenborgian Church, located in San Francisco, California, is 100 years old. It has solidified its position in the community creating a number of friendships with residents, as well as becoming a National Historic Landmark. The church is in Pacific Heights, having been built in 1895 by William Keith, Bernard Maybeck, John Muir, Page Brown, and Reverend Joseph Worcester. Each of these artists and influential San Franciscans wanted to create a building of beauty in order to appreciate nature's beauty, and to help express divinity.

Swedenborgian Church is a Christian sect based on Swedenborg's revolutionary insights. It is a mixture of theology and architecture at this church. Visitors can tour or attend a mass. Sunday masses are held at 11am. They also have Sunday school, weddings, events, and classes. There is a music program, bookstore, and church council.

The interior of the church has a huge fireplace, yet there is no paint, gilt or pews. Instead the church has separate chairs. Redwood was used for the beams, and there are several branches of wood, leaves, and blossoms to symbolize the tree of life. For its grand appearance the church is very simplistic and rustic in nature.
