Scorpion Submarine

The Scorpion Submarine is an actual war vessel, which was in service during the cold war era. It is a Russian Attack Submarine that has been turned into a museum for visitors to Long Beach, California. The submarine allows visitors to see the torpedo rooms, crew's quarters, gallery, electronics areas, and the machinery rooms. The torpedo tubes are left open for visitors to peer down into the space. It is also possible to look through the periscope out at Long Beach and the ocean. This particular submarine was considered a "terror of the deep" for its abilities.

There are miles of wire and piping that make up the submarine's functions. It is possible to see the valves and other piping while on the tour. The submarine was part of top secret missions and other duties that visitors can learn about. It is possible to tour the submarine from 10am to 6pm seven days a week. Admission is $10.95 for adults, $9.95 for seniors and children. There is also a military discount. The submarine was built in 1972 and decommissioned in 1994. It is 299 feet and 6 inches in length with a beam of 24 feet and 7 inches. It has a 20 foot draft.
