Santa Barbara Maritime Museum

The Santa Barbara Maritime Museum is a young attraction in Santa Barbara, California. The museum doors opened in 2000, making it just ten years old. It is located in the old Naval Reserve Building, which dates back to 1943. At first it was a Works Progress Administration project. The museum is based on maritime history; therefore it had to be in a waterfront location and also have at least one vessel to tour. Guests can tour the 1917 sportfishing yacht Ranger, while touring the rest of the museum.

The museum is open six days a week from 10am to 6pm. They are always closed on Wednesdays. They also close for major holidays. Its location is at 113 Harbor Way Suite 190. General admission is $7. Students, active military, and youth can attend the museum for $4. Seniors are also able to get in with a three dollar discount. They offer memberships and require children under 12 to be with a person 16 years or older.

Current exhibits include Postcards from Paradise, Goleta's Cannons, and Loughhead Seaplane. Postcards from Paradise is a temporary exhibit showcasing postcards from the 1890s to present. The post cards show Santa Barbara history.
