Sacramento River

Sacramento River runs partially through the city of Redding in California and provides various recreational opportunities for locals and visitors alike. It is the largest river in California, flowing 375 miles from the shadow of Mount Shasta in the north through to the Central Valley and the Delta to San Francisco Bay. The 54 mile stretch of water from Redding to Red Bluff has some very scenic views.

The stretch of river from Redding to Balls Ferry runs for about 21 miles and is very popular for scenic tours by boat. Here visitors will see large expanses of cottonwoods, willows, alders, shrubs and grasses. It is also possible to go swimming in the river, hike some of the trails or try a spot of trout fishing. There is plenty of wildlife to be seen here too such as otters, muskrat, beaver, raccoon, coyote, deer, skunk, geese, ducks and osprey.

Just four miles south of Redding is a 45 acre RV park with many facilities including a swimming pool, tennis courts and a driving range. The Sacramento River Trail is a good route for cyclists and hikers to find impressive bridges crossing the river and enjoy fine views of the Trinity Mountains. Other features by the river include the Turtle Bay Exploration Park and the McConnell Arboretum and Gardens.
