Rosie the Riveter/World War II Home Front National Historical Park

Rosie the Riveter/World War II Home Front National Historical Park is located in Richmond, California and is approximately half an hour from San Francisco. The park celebrates the contribution of men and women in Richmond during the Second World War. The shipyards at Richmond produced 747 ships, which was more than any other in the country.

Visitors can take a self guided tour of the World War II sites in Richmond, which can take anything from one hour to four hours depending on how much the visitor wants to see. The tour begins at the Rosie the Riveter Memorial in Marina Bay Park, which is open all year round from dawn to dusk. The memorial was the inspiration for the park as a whole when it was erected in the 1990s and is in the form of a vessel in the process of being built.

Another monument that can be visited here is one of the vessels built at the Richmond yard, The Red Oak Victory Ship. This is open from 10am to 3pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and some Sundays subject to the availability of staff and the weather. Visitors to the park will also be able to see the old Ford Assembly Plant as well as other memorial parks with further exhibits about the wartime effort.
