Pismo Pier

Pismo Beach offers stretches of sandy white beachfront that is an ideal location for a relaxing walk or a fun day in the sun. The weather in the area is excellent and the town of Pismo Beach is filled with great wineries, golf courses, a 1,200-foot pier, shopping and beach activities like surfing, horseback riding, body boarding and fishing. The boardwalk in the area is award-winning and those looking for a great bargain will enjoy a trip to the Pismo Beach Premium Outlets. The beach is home to the Pismo Beach Monarch Butterfly Grove, a natural attraction that will be loved by visitors young and old. Every year thousands of Monarchs make a stop at Pismo Beach, escaping colder temperatures further north. The butterflies visit from October to February and cluster among the Eucalyptus trees at the state park. The area is staffed by docents who offer tours of the area and information about the Monarchs. This butterfly colony is one of the largest in the country and is inhabited by approximately 25,000 butterflies each year. Pismo's Monarchs are special and have a life span of six months, which is about four and a half months more than the average Monarch. When the butterflies are in town, the docent trailer is open from 10 am until 4 pm each day and walks are offered from 11 am until 2 pm.
