Palos Verdes Shoreline Park

Abalone Cove Shoreline Park is made up of two separate beaches called Abalone Cove and Sacred Cove. The park consists of various tide pools consisting of several species of marine life. There are also bluff top viewing areas and trails crisscross the entire area.

The park contains a State Ecological Preserve. Park policy strictly prohibits the taking of protected animals and marine life Visitors can find parking lot access off of Palos Verdes Drive South. Access to Abalone Cove is via trail from the parking lot. Visitors must walk along Palos Verdes Drive South to the trails between Portuguese and Inspiration Points to access Sacred Cove. Lifeguards are on duty at Abalone Cove Beach during summer hours and weekends only.

Palos Verdes Shoreline Park is known for its spectacular views from the coves. The park is a favorite location for day trips, picnics, hiking, jogging, walking, and nature observing. Because of the surrounding habitat, fires, barbeques, and dogs are strictly prohibited. Guests of the park must pay a $5 fee per cat or a $15 fee per bus.

During the spring and summer months both coves making up the Palos Verdes Shoreline Park are packed full of people. Locals and tourists alike come to enjoy the natural habitat and outdoor activities the park has to offer
