Moorten Botanical Garden


Moorten Botanical Garden in Palm Springs, California is owned by the Moorten Family. They are desert plant specialists who have turned their residence into a living desert museum. There is something for all visitors such as crystals, colorful rocks, pioneer and gold mine relics, and ancient fossils.

Throughout the year garden parties are available for civic, social, and cultural groups. In fact weddings, receptions, art exhibits, classes, concerts, meetings, mixers, fashion shows, and memorials have all been held at Moorten Botanical Gardens. Photography and television programs are other options.

The Moortens have lived in Palm Springs, California since 1938 with their private arboretum. It is only in the last half of the 20th century that they opened the gardens to the public. The collection has 3000 varieties of plants set about in a natural habitat and along a natural trail, so that visitors can walk about the various species of plants. The home is Mediterranean in style and called Cactus Castle. It offers old Palm Springs charm, though it is not open to the public tour. Guided tours are offered for all types and ages. One must book a tour in advance in order to see the gardens.
