Maturango Museum

The Maturango Musem is located on Las Flores Avenue and is a museum that explores natural history, cultural history, and geological features of the Northern Mojave. The museum is open everyday from 10 AM until 5 PM and until 8 PM on Friday. Admission to the gift shop and information area is free, and admission to the museum is $5, with discounts offered to students and seniors. The museum is a popular destination for field trips and tours can be tailored to suit a variety of grades. Museum memberships help support the museum and entitle members to special discounts and information about events at the museum. The trip from California to Las Vegas takes just ten minutes longer on the route that leads past the museum. If you are looking for a unique side trip on your way to or from Sin City, consider stopping at the Maturango. Children's Hour at the museum is a great way to expose children to the history of the culture and geology of the region. The museum's gift shop offers a variety of gifts and books that are perfect for taking home a piece of history from the museum. Special events at the museum include China Lake Photographic Society meetings, meetings of the Owens Peak Group of the Sierra Club, Docent League presentations, and meetings of the China Lake Astronomical Society.
