Gehry House

Gehry House is a tourist attraction on 22nd Street in Santa Monica, California and is approximately 20 minute's drive from Los Angeles International Airport. This is the private residence of contemporary architect Frank Gehry and was built in 1978. Gehry is a prize winning architect noted for his unusual building designs. His work includes Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles.

Initially a conventional Californian suburban home, Gehry reconstructed the building and turned it into what is referred to as a deconstructivist post modern style. Much of the interior of the original building was removed and the outside covered to create additional space. The outer coating is made from corrugated aluminium, plywood, glass and chain link fencing.

As a result of the additions made by Gehry, visitors will note the randomly slanted lines and angled protrusions of the property. Whilst in the area, visitors can buy lunch or enjoy a sit down meal with several restaurants within one mile of the house including Snug Harbor, Bagel Nosh Deli and Melisse. A 15 mile journey east will take visitors to another Gehry designed building, the Walt Disney Concert Hall in South Grand Avenue, Los Angeles.
