Crossroads of the World

The Cross Roads of the World, located at 6671 Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA, encompasses an entire city block stretching from Sunset Blvd to Selma Ave. Officially opened in 1936 as an outdoor pedestrian mall; the buildings were designed by Robert V. Derrah in the Streamline Modern architecture style. The complex features a main building that resembles a boat and nine smaller buildings each showcasing different international architectural styles.

Initially a popular destination, the Cross Roads did not thrive as a shopping center and slowly replaced the shops with office suites. It continued to fall into disrepair through the 60's and 70's until the location was purchased by Morton La Kretz in 1977. The next seven years were spent restoring the property to its original appearance and enhancing the layout with fountains and updated landscaping.

Once renovation was complete, the site began to attract musical artists looking for a slightly secluded location to work while remaining close to Hollywood. It has since become a center for the entertainment industry housing a variety of script writers, film and record companies; casting agencies, costume designers and more.

The Cross Roads have served as a backdrop to several films and TV shows such as L.A. Confidential, Dragnet and Remington Steele.
