Antique Gas & Steam Engine Museum


The Antique Gas & Steam Engine Museum is located in Vista, California. It is a nonprofit organization which collects preserves and displays items that are associated with the early day of the farm and rural community. There are many educational and recreational activities available for visitors through demonstrations, activities and programs which will provide information from the past and provide direction for the future.

The museum is located on 55 acres of farm land and has been in operation for over 30 years. Approximately 1000 volunteers work at the museum which focuses on equipment from 1849 through to the early 1960's along with exhibits that demonstrate farm equipment and tools such as a horse drawn row crop.

The pieces at the museum are maintained in operating condition so that they can be used for many events and demonstrations. It museum operates as a semi-static museum majority of the time, although they do have demonstrations such as weaving, blacksmithing and N' Scale Model Railroad building at various times through the week. The museum also hosts the annual Tractor Shows.

The museum is a self sustaining non-profit corporation and the majority of their funding comes from events and activities held at the museum. There are over 20,000 items on show at the museum including the 300 HP Allis Chalmers Corliss Stationary Steam Engine, visitors are able to purchase memorabilia from the museum gift shop; they also host many educational programs from pre-school to collage students.
