Oh, please . Virginia, a southern state, has all of those things with the exception of legalizing gay marriage. 4 out of 5 ain't bad.

And we even have Wegmans' *gasp*.

Yeah, the entire state of Virginia is now in the northeast region because some person on the internet uploaded a map to wikipedia.

What are you on?

Hey Yankee, You are very wrong. All of Virginia from Richmond, down to Suffolk, and Chesapeake, across to Roanoke is quite southern. I can promise you it is just as southern in Wise County, or Suffolk, as counties here in South Carolina.
Nova/DC is not southern and was never really part of Virginia anyway.

The whole DC area was a hotbed of civil rights protests and sit ins. We tend to only think of places like Birmingham and Montgomery when we think of Jim Crow, but there were also many brave people who risked their lives in and around the nation's capital.

What is so wrong about calling VA a southern state?

South of Dale icty is the south. You will see the rebel flag and encounter a bunch of hill billy southern accents. Nova is should really become its own state. Very international and northern feel. Having said that Southern girls are much easier then northern girls.

You know, rural parts of places like NY and PA are very conservative and could pass for southern. That doesn't mean they're not northeastern states just because of those parts. VA is quickly blending into the northeast with NOVA. I also want to include Richmond as well since the downtown area and western part of the metro are attracting a lot of transplants from the northeast and other metros in the US as well. Neither parts of those areas of Richmond feel southern.
