I spotted the most beautiful chest of drawers, about six feet tall, displayed on a raised pedestal under a spotlight. It cost a bloody fortune! The smallest drawer about 6" wide, was at the top, then each successive drawer downward -- maybe eight of them -- was slightly bigger. The outer 'walls' of this piece were smoothly sloping and curved, down to the curved, tall legs. It was a reddish color wood, highly polished. This chest of drawers was from luxury furniture designer Viscount David Linley.
That vision haunts me still. When I win the lottery I shall hire a detective to track it down so I can buy it!

Peter Jones in Sloane Square is still going strong, although it's been extensively refurbished, and most of the chain has been re-branded as John Lewis rather than the local department store names many once used.
A lot of the John Lewis Department Stores are impressive and some times historic department stores, and I wish the brand and it's employee's all the best for the future.
As for that chest of drawers it sounds beautiful and clearly had a quite an impact on you, given that you still recall every detail.
