Columbia Center Mall used to strike me as a big size mall but after going to Northtown Mall in Spokane and Clackamas Towne Center in Portland the Columbia Center Mall now strikes me as a medium sized mall.

Malls are a dying breed, but I am not too concerned with Columbia Center. But to answer your question, Columbia Center is doing fine. They still have two major Macy's buildings, (one for women, and one for men and kids). They also have a Sears, which is not exactly a good thing here and now in 2017. However, there are many streetside shops, a multiplex cinema, Barnes & Noble, and the property now offers a brand new Homegoods Store.

Well, I don't know what "main" you are talking about in Seattle. Southcenter? Yeah, it is bigger. Just remember Seattle is a metro area of almost 4 miillion, and Tri-Citiies is just 300,000. Columbia Center is the largest mall south of Spokane, and east of Portland/Seattle. It really has continued to do well, and also exists as a true regional mall that attracts many from Eastern WA, and Eastern OR.

I wouldn't worry about the future of Columbia Center. The TC are exceptionally culturally conservative in their shopping habits. They keep going where they've always gone, where they are comfortable. The mall by now is one of those places. Locals will continue to flock there on the nicest possible days for the foreseeable future. Wouldn't surprise me if their Sears anchor is one of the last of those to shut down, too.

My uber friend tells me that Columbia Center is the #1 destination of his rides, just after Tri-Cities airport. Unfortunately, his drives to TC airport are deadhead drives back to Kennewick due to Pasco's refusal to adapt to Uber's standards. Folks who care about Pasco should put pressure on the city to relax their rules, otherwise Uber will never be efficient in the Tri-Cities.

This is old news, but the movie theaters at Columbia Center are set to be demolished in the coming months. Too bad, as the complex is only 20-something years old. Replacing it will be more retail, probably with outdoor entrances which seems to be a trend with successful malls today. Columbia Center has already done this on the north side of the mall, and around Barnes and Noble. While malls have been dying around the country for atleast a decade or more, Columbia Center still seems quite healthy. Now let's bring in something of value to the old ToysRUs building, perhaps Trader Joe's?

Sears has now filed for bankruptcy, and while that doesn't necessarily mean they will be closing all their stores, it does signal a warning to Columbia Center that this large space could become unoccupied soon, not a good look for the mall.
