Hi! I moved to Dallas at the beginning of summer from the Midwest. Although I enjoyed it the first few months, the "honeymoon phase" is over. Dallas doesn't fit me with the pretentiousness and focus on glitz. I'm tired of seeing people dressed in sequin and all dressed up on a Sat. morning doing errands as well as the snobbery. I've asked many people where in Dallas I could find real genuine people, and the response I get is to move to Fort Worth, which I don't want to. Therefore, I'm thinking about Houston since there are more opportunities, lower cost of living and friendlier people. A friend lived there years ago and loved it. I also visited there years ago and loved it, but I'm guessing it's much different now. There are many things I love about TX: the heat, sunsets, new experiences and opportunities, no state income tax & better economy. I'm not a 20 year-30 year old who cares about the bar scene. My focus is on job stability, having more expendable money & ability to meet genuine people. Please let me know why Houston is better. Also I'm planning on visiting Houston, so if you have suggestions on where to stay that's safe, please let me know. Thanks!

Why are you assuming that everyone agrees that Houston is better than Dallas? This has been an endless debate in Texas and even city vs city C-D threads that go's in circles, and has been beaten to death from every angle already. Neither one wins and it always boils down to the logical answer of preference.

Here's 700 pages of thread material on the topic. This should keep you busy for a while.... https://www.city-data.com/forum/texas...allas-760.html

Its like asking "why are men better than women?"

All this stuff is a matter of preference. Neither is better than the other.

Go visit Houston and determine if that's your preference. Not everyone shares the same opinion on this.

Texan born and raised here, and Dallas and Houston are the last two cities in the U.S. I'd want to live in. Austin and San Antonio are much better, IMO. Out of the four biggest cities, San Antonio has the lower cost of living and friendlier people.

What's wrong in being dressed up while doing errands? Better than looking like a bum in my opinion. Keep in mind Dallas is not on a beach, so it's not going to be like California. Also, we do have winters here, so you're going to see people wearing jackets and such from October.

I think Houston would be better for what you're looking for, but I don't think Houston is better than Dallas. It is noticeably more laid back though. Perhaps it's the coastal culture around the Gulf Coast. Not sure.

Seriously OP, and why the heck do you care so much about what other people wear? I'm quite happy some people have some respect and care enough to not just walk around in hoodies and sweat pants all the time...

THIS. THIS. THIS.

Houston and Dallas are more family towns. Austin is easily the best city in Texas for single 20-35 year olds.

Born and raised in Houston.

Houston has better food than Dallas IMO though. But overall, the state of texas has good food. You can't go wrong with either of the 4 big cities in Texas for food.
