We used to send weekly lesson plans for the multiple subjects we teach at my elementary school. Now he just wants to send one lesson plan for ONE subject of our choice. When he comes in, it will be informal since some teachers aren't being officially evaluated this school year. I hope that clarifies it.

You've been teaching for some time so you should have tons of lesson plans.

You can also go online and rip off other people's lesson plans.

You do PE you can do a lesson plan on stretching and why stretching is important and should be done every day even if you don't exercise. Even if all you're doing is moving furniture around the house, you should still stretch to help avoid injury.

Principals are supervisors and the only way to supervise a teachers is to watch teachers, so I don't see what the problem is.

If you don't like that, they can always install video cameras in the classroom and then the principal can watch you whenever he wants.
There is no problem. It sounds like you think I am seeing this in a negative light. That is not my intention starting this thread. I just wanted to hear veteran teacher's thoughts or opinions about this topic.

I always gave teachers reasonable latitude in interpreting the curriculum standards of the system and/or state. But did equate to 'do your own thing'.
I agree wholeheartedly with you. Since I am a teacher in CA, standards based learning is the norm, but we only have 184 days in a school year. However, some subjects have over 200 standards to either drive by and teach or teach.

Management by walking around is good. Too few administrators do it. I don't know to what extent submission of lesson plans is necessary though.

Indeed, MBWA is a fairly effective tool.

Personally, I don't think lesson plans should be required of a teacher unless there is an actual problem. It's just adding more work on...to turn lesson plans into an administrator who -- at least at middle and high school level -- may have no expertise in the particular field (such as science or math).
