These are nice photos, but maybe there could also be photos that are of something other than McMansions. I mean, something that shows the personality of the area a little better. Not every home for sale in Camillus is a McMansion out in the country. How about photos of suburban streets? Of the parks? Of the main drag (W Genesee Street)?

You can go anywhere in America for McMansions and big-box shopping centers - but all places are not the same.

A Big AMEN to that. I was thinking when looking a the pic's - Where in the world does the money come from to buy into one of those things. I know it is a metro area for a big city but Syracuse isnt just overflowing with top notch jobs and even then, not everyone will earn top dollar. It just strikes me that they dont build reasonable size houses anymore. If the average size family is 2.3 children than that house is just too big. Anyone who says differently is obviously caught up into our culture of greed. yes, I agree if people want that and can afford it, more power to them. but where is the spirit of moderation and self discipline? Should we be living like the Vanderbuilts just because we can? or can we really??? You're right, those neighborhoods strip a town of any charactar and personality

Good Ideas! Though I don't plan to go back to Camillus any time soon. There are many other places on my "must photo" list as it is.

NYCO, sounds like you are familiar with Camillus. Feel free to take and post your pictures of Camillus in this thread. Please post all the info you wish about your community, that's our main goal with this site, people helping people with advice about "whats it like" in any given area.

Thanks! It's very rewarding to hear feedback!

If you like Camillus and if you're in the area, you should also check out Lysander/Baldwinsville and the eastern suburbs. Good luck with your trip if you make it up this way!

Bellafinzi: Beautiful pictures of Camillus - My husband and son came out for a visit this past summer - they fell in love with the town! My husband would like me to see Camillus first hand. Do you have any pictures of Camillus in the Fall or Winter???

Thanks! Sorry, no winter or fall pictures.

Just curious....did your husband and son visit Camillus after looking at my photos? Or did they just happen to find Camillus on a trip to the Finger Lakes or something?

Happy to hear they liked Camillus!

Hello Bellafinzi,

My husband and son came out to Camillus for a lacrosse event- They took a camera - but no pictures came back home. They could not stop talking about how beautiful the town of Camillus is. They were so excited to see your pictures so I could see Camillus is. I do have a question for you. In California, we suffer from terrible traffic and live with long commutes. Our weather is not as extreme as the weather in the upstate area and so driving a 60 mile commute in winter is not that difficult. Do many people commute great distances for work?? Does the weather and road system become a problem for those who do commute more than 30 miles to work??? Any input would be a great help.

Is there a medical center or hospital in Camillus? Or is the drive into Syracuse short enough in case of a medical emergency? Thanks!

Thanks for the reply!

Most here commute less than 20 miles. I believe 20 to 25 minutes is the average commute in the Syracuse MSA. More than 30 miles is rare. I know some people do it, but not many. Turning Stone Casino is about 30 miles from Syracuse and some do commute there. Weather could pose a problem for long commutes. Especially if it's in the snow belt north of Syracuse in Oswego County. Roads are usually cleared in time for the morning commute, but if it's a long commute you could be leaving your home before the snow plows clear the roads.
