Where do your dogs and such poop in the winter? I mean, if the cold drops into negative digits do you just let them outside still? Can they handle it without injury? I am honestly curious!

The time it take for them to do their business is shortened considerably.

I have two labs and during the winter i let them out couple of times a day. And yes, they poop in winter. If you have a toy breed , make sure you put some clothes on them before heading out.

I made a mistake and learned a few lessons the hard way. Our three dogs go outside in the mountains of northern New York, even in the winter when it's 20 below zero. I snow shoveled a path for them ... when the snow was about three feet deep ... about 20 feet away from the back door so that's where they do their business. And they do it QUICKLY. One time --- by the time the "old man" made it within 10 feet of the porch he was struggling to walk and I ran out ad scooped him up. (Never let them out unattended.) I realized then it was too much for his pads and going forward put those dog booties on him and then it was no problem.

One other word of advice. If you put any rock salt down to combat the ice, that salt is going to sting and burn their paw pads. In the city, on the sidewalks, it can be a problem. Again, booties to the rescue. Don't consider it too "sissy" as there are Golden Retrievers and German Shepards in Manhattan wearing booties.

But as someone said earlier, they can generally handle 10 below and even 20 below. Once the temps reach the 20's, we put on their sweaters. Just be alert.
