I've always been interested in raising a few chooks. It seems to be the easy / humane way to get fresh protein.

Curious in the economics of it - how much does it cost to raise hens?

Capital cost of building an enclosure, a house, laying pen, etc.

Runnings costs - food, medications?

How easy is it to keep them in good health?

What do you do with them in the Winter time?

Does the size of the eggs coincide with the breed / age?

How long does a hen lay eggs until it "retires"?

What do you do with non-productive chooks?
