How do I get the overall score out of this voting total?

Trying to get the score from 5 to 10

The total sum of voting "outcomes" was 602 ((63 x5) + (22 x 6) + (6 x 7) + (7 x 8) + (3 x 9) + (3 x 10) = 602).

The average weighted score from all of the votes is approximately 5.79 (601 / 104).

Now someone double check this for me.

Posts #2 and #3 are providing the weighted average.

The weighted average is the product of the sums of the weight times the values, divided by the sum of the weights.

I don't understand this one bit. Weighted average? It really is simply an "average" of the total score that should be calculated the djmilf has.

The average, regardless of the score range used (1-10 or 5-10), comes up as 5.79.
If fractional parts are not allowed then it'd be rounded up to 6.

7.5 is the average of the sum of 5 through 10, which is irrelevant to the question.

If you want the mean score it's 5.79, as above.
Median is 5
Mode is 5

Picture these scores on a graph.,.It's a tall peak at 5 (63 people) and then tails off to only 3 each at 9 & 10.

The mode is the most common score (5).
The mean is the arithmetic average (5.79.)
The median is the point half way between the max & min scores (7)

When the results fall into a bell-shaped curve, the mean, median and mode are all the same.

I threw out the term "average weighted score" in my post, but meant average score or mean score.

I'm surprised that no one pointed out my mistake...maybe you're all too polite to mention it?

The logic of the median in your explanation doesn't even make sense to me unless the number of votes for the highest and the lowest were the same.
Even the number of votes was of no importance, with the existence of bunch other scores, it still seems like a weird and pointless average because it doesn't encompass every value (score) in the question.

I don't know but to me, the median which you used "the mean" for, is the only true average that matters which the questions would typically ask for.
