Coming back from Vallejo, it took me one time 25 minutes to get from Berkeley to the toll.

It is almost always worse from the Berkeley direction than my place.

Most days it also takes 20 min to get to The university exit from my place unless it is after 9pm.

But generally in the bay there isn't much congestion outside of commutes.

I am on my phone, please forgive the typos.

That's true with just about any city in CA.

It's more of a metric about housing costs than one about commutes.

In the next category below mega commuter there are large numbers of people. Many who cross the Bay or who commute from the Outer East Bay / 680 corridor to Silicon Valley.

Exactly.

Exurbs.
Suburbs.

Both of the above are in for pain if they have to get on the freeways.

The reason I was so puzzled when driving around LA. 3PM on Saturday....traffic jam. Midnight on Saturday night. Traffic jam.

Couple this with the fact that you need to "leave your zone" in LA. You really have to account for the entire day's worth of errands since you can't run home to get stuff or change or whatever.

I've spent plenty of time in LA.

I lived in SD for 2 years and went up to LA all the time. I go down to SoCal 3-4x a year on average to visit friends/family.

The traffic in LA is way worse overall than the Bay Area, and about as bad as DC (I grew up in the DC/NOVA area). The freeways are always clogged, and the surface streets can be just as jammed, regardless of what time of day it may be. Believe whatever you want though- NOBODY in this thread seems to agree with you or believe anything you say.

So you never lived in LA County? Got it.
