Friends,
A pick up truck guy hit my daughter car from the back three weeks back. Luckily no one was injured. That guy just gave his phone number (which my daughter ensured it right by calling on the spot) and drove away. We found the lamp assembly needs replacement with paint job that will cost close to $1000. Please can you give suggestions on whether to go through my insurance or call him to pay? Do I need to ask my daughter to lodge police compliant? Inputs/Guidance will be appreciated.

Thank you
Sun

Should have gotten a police report at the time of the accident. Hopefully, you have the other party's drivers license number and license plate in addition to his insurance info, because at this point, it's one persons word against another's. What if he should deny it? Lets just hope he's a man of his word. Unfortunately in a lot of situations like this, the story sometimes changes after the fact.

You can try calling the other driver and see what their response is, but if he balks, just report it to your insurance, and let them deal with it.
