Wow - and I'm used to being the elder statesman in my crowd... but I guess I'm a young pup in these here parts.

The first concert I ever HEARD in SA, I was sitting on the balcony of my dorm listening to Santana rock out in Sunken Gardens across the highway. The first I ever actually attended... Rush at the arena (Convention Ctr? old arena? don't remember)... 1988, maybe? Still my favorite band EVER.

The following weekend we went to a party, he got completely snot-faced drunk, I had to drive us home, and he puked on my carpet. That was our "last date."

Fast forward about 7 years with no concerts--not really my thing--but my husband and I were one of the 7 or 8 straight couples at the Melissa Etheridge concert at the Municipal. She puts on a nice show.
"First Dates" or "First Kiss" now that would be an entertaining thread. I saw ME in Austin at the July 4th concert in Zilker Park. You are right... she puts on a good show.

The first concert I ever attended in SA was in October 2004, about three weeks after I moved here. An old friend invited me to a Norah Jones concert at the Verison amphitheater. We got married about a year and a half later.

'89 or '90. Rush at the old arena. That was cool.

ugh, first concert I saw in SA was Alan Jackson at the rodeo. (Back in the day when I would actually listen to country music.) Have seen some better ones since then, notably Social Distortion at Sunset Station!!!! (MUCH more my style!! And Mike Ness looked as good now as he did 20some years ago!) A totally different genre ~ Black Eyed Peas (with Pussycat Dolls opening) was a blast! Did a lotta dancin that night!

First "actual" concert, tho, was (if I remember correctly anyway) Roy Clark in Phoenix, with the folks, at the Arizona State Fair! heh! Most memorable where also in Phx, during the teen years ~ Rush was awesome, ZZ Top was F-U-N (Cheap Sunglasses days), Cheap Trick was a trip, but best concerts of all times were the Rolling Stones and The Who!!!

My first show was Janet Jackson's velvet Rope show at the Alamodome. That was back then before the Verizon Wireless and ATT center. Everything was at the Alamodome.

This is a great thread. My first show was Van Halen in 1984 in Dallas, but I do remember my first SA show.. the first show at the Alamodome in 92 or so, Paul McCartney. Great show but the acoustics of the Alamodome were not so good.. seemed like the metal wires were resonating at the lower bass frequencies, causing a big mush in the sound. Still an awesome memory.

But no comparison to the folks who attended the '65 Beatles show in h-town. What an incredible experience that must have been. For a Beatles fan such as myself, just reading about it gives me the chills. Wow.

Cookiemeister, I remember Shawn Phillips well - that great hair. Oh, swoon. Saw him in Galveston in the 70s
Did you know that Mark Lindsey from Paul Revere and the Raiders actually lived in SA and went to school here in the 60's??? I can see in my minds eye the house that he lived in, but I can not remember the name of the street for ANYTHING!!! His dad was AF and stationed at Kelly at the time. It was JUST before he joined the band and became big...family was just a run of the mill, good old folk military family.
