I am planning to take my 11yo daughter out tonight for a little 1 on 1 time. I would like to do something special and memorable. Any suggestions?

What kind of things does she like to do? Is she a tomboy, girly girl, or ....?

I'd have to say she is somewhere in between. She really likes the performing arts but she also likes camping and fishing.

What does she like to do? Whatever you two do, use that time to show her what to expect from gentlemen in her life to come. Yes, she will remember your dates. Mine do

HAve dinner downtown, then go to either:
Soul Survivor performance (local band) at the UT Cultural Celebrationm Center at 8 pm;
or free film "Moulin Rouge" at 9 pm at the Gallivan Center.

For dinner, try the Red Iguana on South Temple, just past I-15. It looks like nothing much but the place is a local legend, food is fantastic, very casual. Or if she's aadventurous, try the Shambala, tibetan food, just off E St. and maybe 6th Ave. Also casual. Or the very casual place on 2100 S, between 1100 East and maybe 100 East, blocking on the name, on the north side of the street, silvery-looking entrance. They have my favorite 3 soft tacos, you tell them what you want on it and they make it as you move along the line. I get chicken for about $9.95. Also make other things like burritos, etc. Good luck!

Might be kinda nice to take her up Big Cottonwood and go for a nice walk along the boardwalk and just visit with her. You don't always have to do something "special" to make the night memorable. Sometimes spending time with Dad just talking is the best.

That's what I'd do hands down. Just go for a nice hike and talk.

That's about as special as it can get if you ask me.

I ended up letting her choose.

First, we went to Arby's (which is her favorite).

Next, we went Mini Golfing at Mulligans on 106S. Mini Golfing is cool because there is lots of opportunity to talk. But, since there is golfing going on, there is no pressure to either. I opted against going up the canyon because she always gets car sick when we drive that road.

After that we stopped at Arctic Circle for a shake.

We both had fun and had lots of time to talk. When we got home she sang me a couple of songs that she has been working on.

She and her 12yo brother are in Canada with their Mom most of the time so when they are here I make sure to take them both out for some 1 on 1.

Love that you let her choose what she wanted to do! Sounds like a great evening for the 2 of you.
