Hello,
My husband and I both have worked from home full time for years. We're going to check out Utah. We heard it's beautiful and the quality of life is great. My friend told me that when she was checking out Utah, the thing that deterred her was that in order to work as a realtor, she'd have to be part of an LDS network in order to look for a job. Is this true? and if so, is this true for any industry like high- tech?

I love this thread. It's so educational and fascinating. I have several LDS friends and they are the kindest, sweetest, most creative human beings!

thank you!
Wendy

Absolutely ridiculous. That is thoroughly illegal and doesn't happen. Most of the highest-grossing agents in Utah don't seem to even be from the state originally or obvious members of the Church.

There is no "LDS network." Some small LDS, family-owned companies may prefer to hire other LDS, but for any larger company, this is absolutely NOT the case, and it's especially not true of the people looking for work in the high-tech industries. You may wish to browse through these two old threads to get a feel for what it's like to live as a non-LDS family in Utah:

The Lowdown on Us Mormons
The Lowdown on Us Mormons (Part 2)

I agree with Hiruko and Katzpur. The idea that one needs be LDS or be tied into an LDS network in order to get hired in Utah is completely false and utterly ridiculous. Certainly not true for tech jobs, where demand is thru the roof.

That is preposterous! My husband works for a company that is founded by an LDS family, and we are not LDS. It’s rumors like that that casts a shadow on Utah. I’ve lived in many states over my years, and UT is, by far, the best.

Thank you so much, Katzpur. I have been reading those 2 threads. My apologies that I thought I had posted to the "The Lowdown on Us Mormons (Part 2)" section. User error on my part. I love these 2 threads. I have been learning so much. Thank you!

This is hilarious and worrying at the same time. No you don't . Great jobs market in SLC and the tech market is full of a mix of not only people from Utah but from out of state too.

I worked whilst living there and some of my best friends were from my work environment and plenty of opportunities. My friends were a mix of both mormon and non, not that we cared and we still go out socially when I go back to the USA (sadly not possible this year and have missed seeing them but we keep in touch by FT)

Default A welcome to utah from a non-mormon resident

I have live in Utah more than 20 years. Never been a member of the LDS church.
I have jobs, and had promotions on my jobs according to my performance, even with LDS mmbers for bosses. Al
I demeed my job interviews very fair, as the promotion opportunities within the companies.
It's a church. They are people, some good, some great, some bad like in any other church. Myself, I have stayed, and will from theír church because its just not what I can believe. Human beings, we can share end be happy in the same space without having the same ideals. Mormons, at least. Modern Mormons. Know that.

WELCOME TO UTAH!
