I'm looking for a cheap house to rent for about 1 year. This area seems to have the lowest prices. I've seen a few options near Johnston Park .

That's by Eleanor Avenue, which has always seemed to me to be more North Sacramento than DPM. I haven't ever been to that part, but go through DPM every year for the Memorial Day program at the cemetery there. Lots of older houses have been torn down and replaced by newer ones--I'd assume if you're looking at a low priced one, it's probably one of the older (1930s, 1940s?) houses.

Can anyone else comment on how the neighborhood is now?

Every once in a while I will take the Sacramento Northern Bike Trail out to Rio Linda. That bike trail follows the old Sacramento Northern Rail line on Altos Ave and Traction and then runs parallel to Rio Linda Blvd, out to Rio Linda. I probably last made that trip last fall. I also occasionally will hit the Betos Tacqueria next to the Thrifttown for the lunch specials. I probably last got lunch at Betos maybe three weeks ago.

The neighborhood is cheap for a reason. As a 6'2" guy, I am ok with being there during the daytime, but I would not want to be there after dark and I would not want not want my mom, wife, daughter, girlfriend going there during the daytime without a gun or a guy during the daytime.

As you ride along the bike trail, you come across various different graphitti monuments where the different gangs are marking out their territory. In general I thought as you got North of 80, the area got much better and kept on improving as you got closer to Rio Linda. So I would prefer North Sac and Robla to Del Paso Heights and I would take over North Sac or Ronald. I don't know what the rent difference is between these neighborhoods, but to the extent you could swing it to get out of Del Paso Heights I would. I think I would also take Gardenland over Del Paso Heights as well.

Del Paso Heights is cheap for a reason, the neighborhood really
