"The Battery Prototyping Center at Rochester Institute of Technology was awarded nearly $2.2 million through the Empire State Development Grants program to expand its facility.
Upgrades and expansion of the center will nearly double its current space, add new equipment and increase training capacity in the areas of lithium-ion battery research, manufacturing and development.
The Empire State Development Grants program supports capital-based economic development projects intended to create new or retain current jobs in the state, specifically in the areas of bio-health, clean energy and manufacturing.
“The outlook for the battery industry is positive; that’s why there is so much investment in this area,” said Matthew Ganter, director of the Battery Prototyping Center. “We’ve seen costs for current batteries drop more than 85 percent since 2010 while energy density has doubled. There’s still a lot of development to be done, especially in the areas of sustainable materials, reducing the impact of manufacturing processes and recycling.”
Established in 2014, RIT’s Battery Prototyping Center specializes in emerging energy storage technologies as well as manufacturing and assembly of lithium-ion pouch and cylindrical cells."
"Rochester Institute of Technology has one of the best online MBA programs in the country, according to a new ranking from the 2024 U.S. News & World Report Best Online Programs.
The rankings – released this week – listed Saunders College of Business’ online Executive MBA program as tied for No. 9 in the nation for the Best Online MBA Programs, along with the University of Kansas.
The rankings measure overall academic quality and are across varying disciplines, from general business to nursing. RIT was the only local university to place in the top 10 on one of the ranking lists.
The rankings are based on data collected from the nation’s colleges and universities, which are then weighted by certain criteria, including engagement, expert opinion, faculty credentials and training, student excellence and student services and technologies."
"Rochester Institute of Technology announced the establishment of the Mark and Maureen Davitt Endowed Scholarship, which will provide financial support to RIT students pursuing studies in STEM disciplines – particularly those who graduated from private elementary schools in the city of Rochester.
The $1 million scholarship underscores the Davitts’ commitment to facilitating access to higher education for students facing financial barriers as well as those with alternative learning needs.
The couple has a long-standing dedication to supporting education in the Rochester community, including the Mark and Maureen Davitt Graduate Education Endowed Scholarship and through their contributions to Nativity Preparatory Academy and Hope Hall School in Rochester.
“Education is a powerful tool for empowering individuals and transforming communities,” Mark Davitt said. “Through this scholarship, Maureen and I hope to provide opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds to pursue their academic and professional goals in STEM fields.”
Phil Castleberry, vice president for University Advancement at RIT, said, “Mark and Maureen’s generous contribution will make a significant difference in the lives of RIT students.”
“Their commitment to supporting education aligns with RIT’s mission of fostering innovation and academic excellence,” Castleberry said.
Mark Davitt, founder and former CEO of ConServe, was named the 2021 recipient of the Herbert W. Vanden Brul Entrepreneurial Award, presented by Saunders College of Business at RIT.
The award, created in 1984, is annually given to a successful individual or individuals who developed a business that improved the Rochester economy or whose innovative management skills have changed the course of an existing business."
