Has anyone been to The Flowering Bridge at Lake Lure, North Carolina? I went there last week.
The Rainbow Bridge is a rainbow-painted wooden bridge in a garden setting. It's a memorial to pets that have passed on. It's situated next to/inside The Flowering Bridge, which is an incredibly beautiful place. It's an old concrete bridge that was taken out of commission. Local volunteers keep the site going and it's a veritable botanic garden. Like the website says, it's home to over 2000 species of plants.
I went there because my beloved dog recently passed away and I wanted to honor him and spread a few of his ashes. Unfortunately, I didn't bring the right tool with me so I couldn't open the box. (It's not a Phillips head or a flathead.) This is what some people do if they wish. I didn't see any sign indicating that it is not allowed.
It's not easy getting there. Both roads are windy and narrow, and often steep. There is no cell service from any carrier because it is in a valley surrounded by mountains, including Castle Rock. It's a resort area.
The day I was there was absolutely beautiful. Stunning. My other dog and I sat there for a while and honored our beloved pack member. There are so many leashes, collars, tags, photos, mementos like little bags with their booties inside, etc. A truly special place. It's good that there is a place like this.
At any point in time on this planet there are thousands of people mourning their beloved pets, and it's sad to think about that. When it's my time to go, I want my boy to be the first being who greets me. We miss him so. I'll never forget him and how special he was. How privileged and blessed I was to be his healer, caretaker and pack leader. Sometimes I get really sad when I look at all our photos of places we hiked, rivers and creeks they played in, ocean waves and snow they played in, and more.
If you have the ability to get there, I recommend it. There is no fee. It's better as a whole day event. I was only there for a few hours. I hated to leave, it was so beautiful.
I'll try to post some photos.
